“The blessed grow externally old, and inwardly young,
They live the resurrection.” Rumi
While young, we’re anxious to grow older
Modeling ourselves on nearby adults who appear successful –
Eventually, however, we become older ourselves – inside and out.
But this turns out to be not quite right!
Since, later in our lives, some of us begin a struggle
To become free of our earlier-developed “mature” selves,
While an even smaller number manage to actually accomplish it –
Becoming “children-at-heart” again.
So, as we grow older, we discover a need to start over – by reversing direction –
Spiritually getting younger year after year –
Until we achieve the stage where Jesus might look at us –
(Now grandfathers and grandmothers) –
And say: “Let the little children come unto me.”
How lovely…how tender…Thank you.
