“BEAUTY IS TRUTH’S SMILE WHEN SHE SEES HER FACE IN A PERFECT MIRROR” Rabindranath Tagore (from “Fireflies”)

The “perfect mirror,” of course, is God
Who reflects back beauty whenever truth is being spoken.

Beauty also requires a kind of innocence –
Like the open look of a child
Whose mind is absolutely clear
And fearless.

There’s another kind of beauty, however, that’s created by the application of cosmetics –
Where blemishes are hidden and the face simplified –
So that, from a distance, one “appears” beautiful –
Coming closer, however, is always a different matter –
When everything becomes transparent – especially any artificiality.

True beauty is like a wave …. falling ….
True beauty is like the spontaneity of young children –
Especially their playfulness.

A few years after he became a young adult and totally open to God,
Jesus, arguably, became the most spiritually beautiful person in the world
And that’s why the authorities determined to kill him ugly
When, however, as a largely unforeseen result, he became so infinitely beautiful
It was almost impossible to look directly at him and live.

This is still the case for those who worship true spiritual beauty today.

“THE STRONGEST PERSON IN THE WORLD IS THE PERSON WHO STANDS MOST ALONE” Henrik Ibsen (from “An Enemy of the People”)

If, one day, you’re successful at becoming your “true self,”
Does that mean you’ll end up all alone?

Perhaps not – yet solitude is often thought to be a requirement for meeting God –
It’s what hermits try to accomplish through acts of renunciation
Which, however, ultimately don’t work.

Actually, there’s no special requirement for becoming a “true self”
Other than giving up your ego –
The one so loved by your mother.

The moment you decide to become your “true self” –
Satan and all the other “dark gods” of materialism, anxiety, and violence
Will come rushing towards you – as if in a bad dream –
Knowing you’ve made the decision to join in the Spirit of God
While remaining in human form.

If this experience doesn’t immediately convince you to put on a cloak of humility
And urgently request the protection of God –
Then you must be a fool.

God’s fool, that is –
However, before you step off the cliff on a perfect sunny day,
Before you enter the air
Think about how much God loved Jesus
Before he was crucified.

Jesus didn’t know (even though he might have intuited)
That his brutal death would create so much life for others –
He didn’t know his act would become emblematic of the true life of God –
He simply let himself suffer, alone, trusting in God instead of himself,
And, consequently, became “the strongest person in the world.”

AN ENLIGHTENED WOMAN

What’s an “enlightened” woman like?

She has patience, wisdom beyond her years, and an irresistible sense of humor –
She’s spontaneous and spiritually free –
A person anyone would want to become friends with
Even if they only passed her once in the street.

What does leadership from such a woman look like?

Like family – a loving family –
Where everyone’s supported to be themselves
Where everyone gets what they need and aren’t ashamed of asking for it –
But, also, the kind of leadership Alexander once demonstrated –
Running out ahead of his army – straight towards the enemy –
So fast everyone had to run even faster to catch up and protect him –
A woman, like that, running out in front of us all.

What values does such a woman have?

Love, for sure – a person convinced about the effectiveness of love –
Someone who tells the truth – (there’s never doubt about anything she says) –
Justice, of course – everyone rightfully expects they’ll be treated fairly by such a woman –
And she’s peerlessly beautiful – especially in spirit
Which shines radiantly through her face, eyes, and gestures –
Just being near her feels like we’ve arrived in Heaven –
The angels singing “yes, yes, yes.”

What does an enlightened woman look like?

Like a female Messiah –
Like an Avatar of God –
Or even “God in human form” – perhaps like Jesus – come back female.

Let’s resist building temples for her – that would be too much of a male thing to do –
And simply start rejoicing when she finally arrives.

THE WOMEN ARE COMING

The women are coming – a large group of leaders –
Who’re different from the men –
They’re people with a sense of humor
Who’re capable of laughing at themselves –
And, maybe even, good humoredly, at you!

The women are coming – and it’s about time –
The last man, the worst man, ruling now
Is daily shocking the world with how low men can go.

The resentful portion of the white population has been perpetuating this clown “king”
And he’s been ruling – just like he said he would –
Children, women, and people of color
Running to get out of his way.

Yes, the women are arriving – and just in the nick of time –
We really need them!
Not a bunch of “Marys” or “Marthas,” but a strong group of political “Messiahs”
Strewing miracles all over the face of America –
Each of our society’s tears turning into joy.

The men who’ve belatedly become ashamed of archaic paternalistic roles
Have been supporting these women –
Especially since such men no longer feel compelled to embody male hardness or violence
And, as a result, they’ve developed a deep yearning for mature sane women,
As well as for all the young energetic mothers
Who’ve recently expressed a strong desire to put our nation’s house back in order.

God says: “It’s the women’s turn now –
Please, get out of the way!”

THE EGO IS AN ACTOR

The ego is an actor
With a chest full of costumes suitable for playing its various roles.

A “true self,” however, will put away all those costumes
And become no one –
With no roles, no desire to manipulate others,
And, of course, not much power or riches either.

The ego is an actor
Playing to an audience of one – and sometimes many –
But, primarily, manipulates itself
In the vain hope of, one day, overcoming the world.

The “no self” is spontaneous –
Empty of everything except for joy,
But, certainly, overflowing with that!

The ego carries out the roles
That family and friends recognize –
And never, ever, forgets the specific part it’s supposed to play.

A lifetime passes
During which we’re regularly fed, entertained, and comforted –
But this type of quotidian ego can never reflect the person we really could have been –
That is, someone who solely serves God –
And whose real name is “Freedom.”
