LOVE FOR THE INVISIBLE

“Impossible, isn’t it?”
The guru who knows “what’s what” mumbles.

He can’t see individual women –
Because he doesn’t want to!

He’s a man who takes women in delectable bites –
Always desiring just one more.

Men, in general, though, hang around in bands or small herds
Which multiplies their strength –
Occasionally, a few women join in.

Jesus, on the other hand, might have been the kind of man who wasn’t totally male –
In gender, he might have been, at least in certain aspects, female –
Remember, in the synoptic gospels, he once compared himself to a “hen”
“How often I have longed to gather your children together,
as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings … “ (Mt 23:37).

This is someone who became stronger and more courageous
Than any other human being on earth –
Someone able to eventually devour an Empire –
Following which, a couple thousand years later,
This person is still passing that Roman Empire through
Their ancient/postmodern body.

Personally, I’m also getting closer to death
But don’t know which parts, or all, of me that’ll consist of –
That is, whether there’s anything invisible hiding inside me –
Waiting for death to reveal itself –
In the meantime, I’ve been patiently waiting to expire
In God’s promised, physically challenging,
Final burst of spiritual joy!

THE MISTAKE OF WANTING TO ASSERT CONTROL

Some people, especially men, want to assert control
By wielding, waving around, symbolic inflatable penises.

Most women, and even a few men, understand, on the other hand,
That letting go of one’s mental and physical tensile grip on life
Allows God to step in to do something unexpected,
Which, upon reflection, usually works out much better.

The truth is, God only acts when we allow space
For something “out of the blue” –
“Blue” being the color of pure spirit.

Sometimes, we see this through the eyes of a tiny insect
And, sometimes, like God, we see it through the eyes of the entire universe
Which is similar to observing God coming to earth –
What we pray for, but usually, don’t truly want.

God, please permit me to give up my desire for full control.

Let me give it up with a smile –
Like the memory of one time I wasn’t pressing so hard –
Waiting for God –
Hoping that my “false self”
Would finally give me permission to let go!
