POETS AND GOD

Great poets desire to express the inexpressible
And that’s why the greatest of them – spiritual amateurs all –
Reach for the Divine.

Early on, Christianity got rid of spontaneous poets
And replaced them with orthodox priests and ministers –
And this is why, eventually, Christianity evolved into a religion of rationality –
A religion without fresh poetic inspiration.

People on a long journey towards the holy, however,
Want their favorite poets free to “sing” to God
Because they understand that spontaneity
Is essential in expressing spiritual truths.

Once they’d given up holy ecstatic singing,
Western poets, over time, increasingly became colorless and dull –
Proving that poets need the energy that can be imbibed
From the “living juices” of a “living God.”

In other words, artists (which all true poets are)
Require a subject matter that is “colorful” – “packed with life” –
Like the Divine (the “face” of God)
And Nature (the “back” of God).

In sum, to have the experience of God remain “fresh” –
God needs poets who are willing to reach out to the Divine –

So, tell me, how did Western poetry ever get so far off-track?

HOW MANY AVATARS NEED TO MARCH INTO OBLIVION FOR US TO FINALLY GET THE MESSAGE?

Asking God for specific results, things, or hoped-for events
Has been defined as “spiritual materialism” –
The kind of petitioning prayer that, all the way back to the beginning,
Turned people into spiritual consumers or merchants.

This buying, selling, demanding, and pleading with the Divine
Has nothing to do with the true essence of God.

God is Love and Truth – and nothing else –
After Jesus, the Buddha, Mohammed, and Moses –
Haven’t you gotten the message yet?

STILL A POSSIBILITY

It takes some imagination to experience the Holy –
God can’t be “painted” solely in prose – it always takes a “good dose” of the poetic
To display God’s brilliant colors.

Love is humanity’s expressway to God –
Jesus himself merged into God through love
And then informed everyone what he’d accomplished
So they could do the same.

Jesus never envisioned establishing a major religion –
Rather, he saw himself as a spiritual teacher
Who taught everyone could achieve a relationship to God
Similar to the one he had discovered.

So, if you do happen to follow Jesus’ teachings –
You’ll be able to gain important insights into the Divine –

Yes, it’s true, ecstasy still remains a possibility
For those of us living in the Twenty First Century.

GOD RELAXES TIME (For Bruce)

God is in no rush – and so relaxes time –
Willing to wait for us to embrace the Divine – sometime in the course of our lives.

God knows us – and so is patient –
Understanding that we need freedom when turning in the direction of ecstasy –
And that we also need time to get prepared for all that light.

God is within us – “immanent” – I know you know this –
But God is also “transcendent” –
It’s the same thing, believe it or not.

Remember, every time you catch yourself loving someone or something –
You’re experiencing “God” at that very moment.

Just think what it would it would be like “to completely fall in love with God” –
That is, with everyone and everything – all the time.

Surprisingly, for an agnostic, you already know this –

Isn’t that true?
