A REAL GOD

I feel a kind of joy exploding inside me
When I discover that Kevin and LeBron
Have put their money and status behind bright ambitions for minority children

In this time of political darkness.

I feel ecstatic looking at an infinity of stars sprinkled across the night sky
Similar to the numberless women “stars” elected to political office across our land –
Muslims, African Americans, Native Americans, Asians, and Hispanics –
Americans all – to the bone

In this time of political darkness.

I want to dance up and down the room, across the street,
And up to the corner and back –
When discovering how many people accept integrity and a hunger for truth
As a way of life
Upon finding the real God who resides outside most churches and religious institutions

In this time of political darkness.

WHAT’S REALLY “REAL”?

Is only what’s visible – “real”?

But, what if the invisible’s just hiding –
For our own good?

After all, what would happen if God, even once, showed up “plain as day” –
Wouldn’t we need to quickly become invisible in order to protect ourselves?

And what would God “see” when God “looks” at us?

A bright dusting of subatomic particles –
Flowering in kaleidoscopic dimensions –
Struggling for some priority of “appearance”?

On the other hand, when we “look” at God, we aren’t able to “see” anything
Because God isn’t a “thing”
Which proves the secularists correct – (at least to the extent they’re willing to go) –
Since, logically, without “thingness,” no “thing” can possibly exist!

So, by establishing “Gods” and their respective civilizations,
People projected giant spiritual puppets up and away from themselves –
Placing them on distant heavenly thrones.

However, recently, we’ve been in a process of losing our belief in such “Gods” –
So, mightn’t there be some danger that our “socially-constructed selves”
Might also get blown to pieces in the ensuing chaos?

Don’t we understand anything
Do we really have to take all the churches, mosques, and synagogues apart, stone by stone,
Along with all the traditional religious rhetoric – phrase be phrase,
In order to get free enough to encounter a “real” God
Face to face –

That is, for us, finally, to become fully conscious and fully alive?

WHAT IS “GOD”?

When someone says:

“I love God with all my heart, soul, mind and spirit” –

What “God” is being talking about here?

The God that I mean is not some ancient shibboleth
Or “Big Old Man in the Sky” –
And, certainly not, the puppet God worshipped in too many churches today.

My God is “the Best” – that is, the best that human beings have ever been able to conceive.

For example, for me, this would include:

“Love” coming to life in all its most beautiful manifestations –

“Truth” that’s continually opening up – ever clearer and finer –

“Justice” as “ultimate fairness” – which naturally exists, and

“Beauty” which makes life feel like a “celebration” is about to happen!

What do you think constitutes the “Best”? Or, perhaps even, the “Very Best”?
Tell me, and I’ll be happy to say that what you just said
Is closely-related to, or even a part of, “God.”

It’s that simple, isn’t it?

If you argue “the Best” no longer exists –
Like much Western culture currently treats the word “God” –
Then what has happened is only that you’ve tricked yourself out of yourself.

Actually, “the Best” does exist –
And, traditionally, and rightly, we call it “God.”

When I say “Love” is God – or “God” is Love –
Do you really dare reply that it’s not?
