A DEMOCRACY OF ENLIGHTENMENT

Each and every child on earth is born ecstatic – it’s natural to all human beings
And not just reserved for “spiritual greats” – whether avatars or Messiahs –
It’s something everyone on earth possesses – as a birthright –
In other words, when human beings are born – they’re born into ecstasy –
It’s what human life, potentially, is.

However, to retrieve that initial spiritual capacity later on in life as an adult,
We’ll have to unlearn almost everything we’ve so dutifully mastered
And give up the “person” we’ve worked all our lives to become
In order to discover that ecstasy – a second time.

Mystics call this “the pearl”
I call it the “true self”
Each person has an absolute right to it –
And, if they truly want it – it’s always there.

We don’t have to overcome Himalayan mountain ranges of self-doubt –
Or eventually come to know “everything in the world” –
We just have to be willing to accept our “true self” –
The one we were originally born with.

This is the gift God has wanted to re-give us the most!

LOST INNOCENCE

It would be some miracle if we could ever find it again –
Lost somewhere during the course of early childhood.

If, for a moment, however, we put down our more serious pursuits
And start looking –
With patience, we’ll find it’s still there.

And, if we start re-cultivating that spring-green patch of early innocence,
One day, out of it, might grow a gentle mature human being
Who – because of gratitude –
Could well be on the way to becoming “whole” – that is to say, “holy.”

Later, when God looks down
At all the human beings in the world exhibiting gratefulness –
Because of that gratitude, from God’s point of view, they’ll light up
And can be seen.

THINKING ABOUT BEAUTY

One can’t “see” beauty except through love –
In fact, beauty will refuse to come into existence without its presence.

***

One can’t “recognize” beauty without truth
Because, without it, one can only make out a fuzzy, indistinct façade.

***

One can’t “enjoy” beauty without justice
Because injustice causes us to forget everything else.

***

Beauty is “fresh” … “fragile” … and always “temporary.”

***

Beauty is the most valuable thing that’s actually not a “thing.”

***

Beauty is like God – evanescent – so we’re often uncertain about its very presence.

***

Beauty’s central to what makes life worth living.

FREEDOM IS A PRE-CONDITION

Freedom is a pre-condition to experiencing God –
Or love, truth, justice, or beauty, for that matter.

Without freedom, and the courage it takes, “you” are nowhere
Because outside ideas, powers, and institutions
Have the ability to take you away from yourself.

Without freedom you’ll have no true life
No true being
No true existence.

Before you “do” anything
Before you say “yes” or “no” –
First, become free.

There’s really nothing else worth having
Spiritually, politically, or economically
Than to be a free “true self.”

Actually, the definition of “human”
Is “freedom.”

GOD IS NOT PERFECT

God is not “perfect”
Just as nothing alive is perfect.

The only true perfection is death –
Anything alive cannot be perfect, by definition, because life’s constantly changing.

Think about nature, is any of it ever “perfect”?

Jesus was never perfect so long as he was alive –
He only achieved theological “perfection” after his death.

Thinking about achieving “perfection” will only make you unhappy –
Why would you want to be unhappy?

The interior “judge” you’ve been trying to satisfy by perfection is a dead spirit –
Why would you want to be dead?

Be as imperfect as you really are –
“Alive” –
And as happy as you can be!

Perhaps even “joyful” –
If you’re not afraid of leaping into reality –

A reality filled with life.

SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT JOY BEING CONTAGIOUS

When a joyful human being “touches” another person,
Frequently, they’ll also start becoming joyful
And when a joyful human being even accidently “looks” at another person,
They might start feeling joyful too

Joy arises within
Happiness without

Joy is unconditional
Happiness conditional

Sharing joy is “love-in-action”

Joy is contagious in a good and healthy way –

Also, it’s a miracle of God!

“JOY”

Believe it or not, joy is our natural state of being –
Or “dance” we’re about to break into –
Where time and space can disappear.

Or, what happens, bit by bit, as we become more fully aware of God
As life’s “core reality.”

Joy can’t be controlled by anybody – since it’s “out of mind” and “completely wild” –
In fact, God and joy, over time, have been transmitting a similar experience to human beings.

Once we give up our ego self
And step through the door labeled “joy” –
We’ll never want to return to that time and place
Before joy first entered our lives.

DIVINE SWEETNESS

Everyone who’s ever experienced God
Talks about the “sweetness” in loving God directly
And also indirectly through other people or creatures;
Or by, suddenly, intuiting God’s “presence” nearby;
Or even, perhaps, in overhearing a subtle “whisper” of God.

Atheists and agnostics have little interest in such experiences
Because they’ve gotten trapped inside their own minds.

It’s the human “heart,” however, that, in truth, experiences God
Because, after all, this is a love affair –
So sweet, we often lose our ability to even “think” –
And only remember, much later, what God “tastes” like –

That is, a sweetness – to “die for.”

GOD COMES IN WHEN THE “OLD SELF” GOES OUT

If you want to be “like” God, you have to let your ego “self” go –
For to be like God is to become nothing –
Because as a no “thing” you’ll have opened yourself up to freedom.

As soon as we start becoming “somebody” or “something,”
Or commit to any external concepts or ideas,
Our freedom starts becoming restricted.

For us, to be “spontaneous” is to be “human” in a similar way that God is “God.”

Religions’ founders, in their holy books, always point towards spiritual freedom
But, unfortunately, these same books were transcribed and edited by followers,
Not founders,
Who diligently worked at limiting human freedom
To fit their own version of the founder’s vision
So that people could return to being “properly” controlled –
Much as they had been before.

As a consequence, religious institutions basically preach
And teach different kinds of spiritual control,
Even though the “God” manifested by the founders continues to remind us
Of the inherent essentiality of spiritual freedom.

Remember, God is “absolutely free” –
And that’s what God has always wanted for us too.

FREEDOM

What is the “true nature” of human beings
That they share with God?

Freedom!

Most of the time, however, rather than taking a spiritually spontaneous path,
People find it easier to go in a materialistic or spiritual-materialistic direction
In which they have to give up freedom
In order to become whatever they’ve been told “their God” wants –
And whatever, in the particular culture they’ve grown up in,
That they’re “supposed” to become.
