CLAP HANDS

I want to clap hands
And with each clap initiate a separate universe.

I want to rain down beauty
So everyone can get “heart” wet.

I want to migrate with the birds
So I’ll be able to find my way back home.

I want to light a small fire in the hearth of my heart
And substitute a “pearl” for my everyday mind.

In Roman times, pearls were even rarer than diamonds
Because ancient mining industries moved mountains to produce them –
But it’s only when holding your breath while diving
That you’ll be able to discover the iridescent beauty hidden in those deep water shells.

The sun provides infinite life over almost infinite time –
But, someday, it will go out –
Truly, it’s only the green life that matters –
Everything else dross.

I’m dying to say one new word –
One that can never be forgotten –
God, why don’t you slide it across that green baize table
So that, when I turn it over, I can look surprised!

I WANT TO HOLD A CUP

I want to hold a cup made by human hands
To walk on Persian rugs crafted the same way.

I want to hang paintings on my walls reflecting spiritual joy
Refined through millennia of grand artistic inspiration.

I want that cup more than anything –
A personal object – touched by touch –
That I hold next to my body – and rely upon.

I want human work to be helpful
With caring primary in all our efforts –
This is why I want God affirming us, as well as our affirming God –
Because we’re carrying out what God wants.

I want the knock at my door to be God coming home –
Searching for me –
And this is how I want God to find me – waiting at home –
Studying to become holy.

I want God knocking and knocking –
For this not to be a dream –
But real as life!

GOD SAYS

God says
“Let there be capitalism –
But only within limits.”

Upper middle class above –
Lower middle class below –
While anything else will be viewed as anti-human
And “Not Permitted!”

Billionaires wear the masks of invisible monsters –
Stealing the opportunity to become fully human
From hundreds of millions of men and women across the world.

Extreme capitalism – that is, capitalism without limits –
Bends everything to its accelerating force –
Whether politics, religion, beauty, or meaning –
With a resulting loss, across the board, of proportionality.

Human capitalism with limits –
Retains a potential of human freedom
And preserves the natural goodness
Of our “home” – this blue/green earth –
Along with the purity of its water, air, and soil.

Just as an absolute Second Amendment has flooded our country with guns
Used to murder young children and, of course, numerous others –
So absolute capitalism empowers a handful of human beings to become “diamond gods” –
Humanly heartless –
With the remainder of humanity channeled into wage slavery for meeting basic human needs.

God says
“Let there be capitalism –
But only within limits.”

THE NEED FOR SOMETHING “FANTASTIC”

Restlessness is the opposite of peace –
Anger of joy.

So why do we insist on spending time
In dismal lands – far from the spirit –
Even though, from birth, we possess a passport into the world of the Good?

Yes, it’s true that agitation and sleeplessness
Are fruits of a spiritual disease –
But in God’s medicine chest
Every single pill, elixir, and cream – all “natural,” by definition –
Can cure anything.

Long ago, when God began calling human beings
To come home –
They didn’t hear because they had been listening to something else.

The ones who did hear became the elect – the chosen ones –
But, those who, for some reason, didn’t,
Spent most of their time and energy enhancing the “fantastic” in their lives –
Because that’s all they were capable of experiencing at the time.
