THINKING ABOUT RELIGION

Once upon a time, religion was primarily about God
But, today, young people want nothing more to do with any such “religion” –
Pointing out that, in many cases, it’s been transmuted into raw politics –
That is, into fields of strife and hate in a variety of forms and forums –
Including racial, class, and culture.

One prime example is the Russian atheist KGB kind of guy
Who got control of an entire national religion (the Russian Orthodox Church)
And has been using it as a tool to assist in unleashing death like a dark blanket
Over the heads of a neighboring Slavic state
As the first step in re-establishing the “Mongol Empire.”

And then, there’s our own American QAnon clown blaring: “You’re so fired!”
On his way to establishing himself as a cult leader and wannabe tyrant –
Along the way, subverting a primitive Christian religion – Evangelicalism –
Into a ready willingness to trade in its past spiritual wealth for political hard-wired power –
Saying: “If you give me your votes, I’ll ensure abortion becomes unconstitutional”
By sprinkling “conservative” justices and judges like anti-feminist dust through the land –
Requesting his “Evangelical” followers, in fair return, to give him the American “throne!”

Following all this, clever peripheral guys have come flooding in – seeking open opportunities
To cynically work their game of manipulating hard hearted fools –
(Ones who think violence is “cool”) –
(Ones infected with fascism through a nightly Fox punditry dosage) –
All, in exchange for money, power, and cheap notoriety.

After God was sold out by many of the current Christian Evangelical leaders –
Young people saw through it all –
Discovering that Christian “God” wasn’t necessarily “Good” –
Yet failing to understand they weren’t rejecting the “real” God
But only a “puppet” God promoted (from the beginning) by Satan
Who, it looks like, may, temporarily, be winning.

Yet, I promise that the real God is alive and on the way –
Armed with Truth, Love, Beauty, and Justice –
You’ve probably never seen nor experienced all those elemental powers of God at once –
Who, as the “true” God, will, of course, emerge victorious
Over all these recent tin-plated political/media online “gods.”

Who is God, anyway?
Is God a spiritual entity encouraging us to be our best
Intellectually, morally, and spiritually?
Is God someone pointing us in the right direction?

My main problem with God involves the influence of certain people
Who also are pointing us in one direction or the other –
People from whom we think we need permission,
Or who provide us with identity,
Or even the permission to be?

When these people merge with God, we get “Religion” –
Like a cloud in front of the sun –
Especially when we’re not able to distinguish one from the other.

All human beings are born with the capacity to experience joy –
And so, from birth, potentially we can embody it –
But then, almost immediately, we find we aren’t seeing beyond our family
(Unless our family’s exceptionally transparent to God) –
So, when we perceive family instead of God –
That is, when we experience a world largely of related people instead of a world of God –
This becomes one of the main sources of our anxiety.

We know God is there – right behind them– just over their shoulders –
As spiritual “light” –
And when we fall in love with that light –
It frequently occurs to us to “hit the road.”
If we do that, we’ll have to leave family, society, and world –
And risk dying for God.

But, if we follow through on this, eventually we’ll get everything back –
God and the world –
Even family.

If we become a “God” person
We’ll be able to “see” God in others –
In all others.

Then, when we’re able to distinguish what’s not God from God –
That won’t upset us –
Because it’s reality
And God is reality.

When we start seeing reality through God’s eyes –
Feeling with God’s heart –
We’ll fall deeper and deeper in love with Love
So that everything turns out alright –

You might even say, we’ll have been “Saved!”

MY NAME IS SURPRISE

One problem with religion is its construction
Of sandcastles in the desert –
Waiting for successors to knock them all down.

Another trouble with religion is its professionalization –
Because only amateurs are authorized
To take off their clothes in public.

Then, with religions, there are “splits”
Where the fiercest enemy is a sizable portion of its former self –
Flying arrows – hearts turning black.

The final trouble with religion is the killing off of founders
Because founders, like Jesus, the Buddha, and Mohammed,
Are still too alive to be turned into museum sculptures –
So alive, that everyone runs away screaming:
“They’re alive – watch out – better yet – run!”

Of course, running out into the lonely night,
Eventually, you have to stop, turn around, and start to relax –
But it’s really not so bad without post-founder institutions to believe in –
After all, that feeling of freedom is wonderful!

My heart starts doing jumping jacks
In my chest
Out my mouth.

My name is “Surprise” –
Just don’t try sneaking up on me!

THERE’S NO BEAUTY WITHOUT

There’s no beauty without naturalness
And, of course, goodness.

There’s no beauty without a love that’s alive
And none, certainly, in the bleak lands of the unjust.

There’s no beauty without reciprocal respect
And none when facing violence.

There’s no beauty without generosity
And none, of course, beyond the outer limits of joy.

There’s certainly no beauty without spontaneity
And none at all when engaged in worshipping one’s own ego.

When natural beauty walks into a room – everyone holds their breath
Because the presence of beauty makes everyone glad
For this unexpected gift.

When God eventually sends us a follow-up to Jesus –
In female form –
Everything will have to be re-thought, re-experienced, and re-imagined
Because of the presence of such new spiritual beauty –

That’s when we’ll be able to modify all the old forms
Of capitalism, religion, laws, and customs –

And when the world will finally start becoming fresh
Once again.

GOD SAYS

God says
“Let there be capitalism –
But only within limits.”

Upper middle class above –
Lower middle class below –
While anything else will be viewed as anti-human
And “Not Permitted!”

Billionaires wear the masks of invisible monsters –
Stealing the opportunity to become fully human
From hundreds of millions of men and women across the world.

Extreme capitalism – that is, capitalism without limits –
Bends everything to its accelerating force –
Whether politics, religion, beauty, or meaning –
With a resulting loss, across the board, of proportionality.

Human capitalism with limits –
Retains a potential of human freedom
And preserves the natural goodness
Of our “home” – this blue/green earth –
Along with the purity of its water, air, and soil.

Just as an absolute Second Amendment has flooded our country with guns
Used to murder young children and, of course, numerous others –
So absolute capitalism empowers a handful of human beings to become “diamond gods” –
Humanly heartless –
With the remainder of humanity channeled into wage slavery for meeting basic human needs.

God says
“Let there be capitalism –
But only within limits.”

WHAT KIND OF “GOD” IS YOUR GOD?

Gods come and go –

Over time, Gods get born, become really scary, and then, ultimately, fade away,
And die.
Dead Gods are almost completely forgotten –
Because, as time passes, most people can’t even remember their names.

In a similar situation, one day, Saul/Paul decided to create a “new” God,
And name him “Jesus Christ” –
It was a good trick – to take a crushed man and turn him into “God” –
This happened because, in Paul’s view, the God being worshipped during that time
Was an angry, intolerant, and quickly-fading “tribal” God – with no “juice” –
Already on the way to becoming a dying God –
Paul wanted something “new” to put in the place of that older god –
Something never before seen.

Two millennia later, for their own reasons, American “Evangelicals”
Also decided to pick up that crushed man
And turn him into a “key” – to open the doors of partisan political power –
Yes, they made that once holy spiritual human being
Into a “thing” to beat up nonbelievers with –
A shibboleth to reject all “others” who refuse to say his name is “God.”

This “man\God,” in turn, has been “dying” down through the hallways of modern history –
Leaving behind infinite numbers of bibles and other contemporary “clay shards” –
Along with a religion that not many serious spiritual people still believe in –
That is, “Evangelical Christianity” –
Which is now being ignored by increasing numbers of young people.

Jesus, oh Jesus, Jesus
Why did Paul/Saul pick up your body
And make you into something you never were?

Why did Saul/Paul attempt to achieve semi-God status for himself
Through the creation of a “new” God?

Paul, the “God creator!”

What a subtle serious trick to play upon posterity!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

“Unless you turn and become like little children, you will not enter the kingdom of God.” Mathew 18:3

It’s not like math, science, or long-nurtured craft –
It’s not like anything you can learn from others.

You can’t find it in religion
Because they’re lying when they say they have it –
They actually don’t have anything at all.

There’s only one person in the world who has what you need
And that’s you –
But it’s almost impossible to find
Because it hides in plain sight –
So most of the time you don’t believe it’s really there.

Only you are able to recognize the person you were born to be
Only you can recognize your true inner child

If you have the courage to penetrate through all the societally-encrusted layers
And touch your true inner self –

Spiritually, you’ll “explode” into the person that’s uniquely you.

The name of that explosion is called “ecstasy”
And the name of the place you’ll end up has been called, by Jesus,
The “Kingdom of God.”

AT ANY MOMENT

Once you become nothing – that is, no thing,
You instantly become a door –
A spiritual door that, once entered,
It’s possible to find your “true self.”

Surprisingly, it doesn’t take much “work” to surrender one’s ego
Since it’s only “dead weight” accumulated from birth –
Manufactured and transmitted by culture, politics, society, and religion.

It’s surprisingly easy to find your true self – the easiest thing in the world –
But does take courage
Because you have to give up everything –
That is, the glorious ego you pieced together over a lifetime.

Easy, because you’re already “there” – beyond ego – without consciously knowing it –

Yes, it’s true, you can find your “true self” at any moment –
Your very own spiritual “pearl.”

ALL THE TIME

Even if you put on an official “coat” of religion,
You probably still won’t achieve what God truly wants –
However, if you courageously open your heart – even a bit –
You’ll quickly find yourself being flooded with loving spirit.

Actually, “God” isn’t God at all –
Because God doesn’t have a name
And disappears whenever we are attempting to use one.

God sometimes may be found out in open fields or beneath gently rustling trees –
You can’t actually see or hear God then,
But, during such times, it is possible to gain a sense of God’s airy touch.

More often, though, God is found in hardship and suffering –
You won’t hear or see God then either,
But, if it’s important to you, you’ll be able to feel God’s presence.

God is known most completely by us
At birth
And death.

The rest of our lives should be just the same –
Yes, God should be that close – all the time.

THE CANS NO LONGER OPEN!

There’s nothing more open, yet more resistant to change,
Than the American people.

We are the direct descendants
Of an extended chain of empires.

We stretch back – deep into time –
While, at the same time, and quite carelessly, vault into the future.

Truly, there’s nothing more modern,
Yet more ancient, than Americans.

We enjoy playing marbles with our leaders’ heads –
Voting for what we think we believe in –
And buy too many things we don’t really need.

What a laugh!
Especially since there’s not a single funny bone remaining in America.

The cans don’t open either –
Since the can openers have all gotten misplaced.

It’s the fault of religion
That we can’t find anything anymore –

Jesus Christ had been our favorite “opener” –
But, somehow, along the way, he got bent.
