MISTAKES ARE NOT INHERENTLY EVIL

Some people say Trump followers are evil
Because they intentionally hurt the poor, immigrants, and the sick
But neither Socrates nor Jesus would go that far –
Instead, they would say that Trump followers are “mistaken” –
People who’ve been misled or who’ve worked at misleading themselves.

Once shown the truth –
Once the truth is discovered –
They’ll see, and, turn
Back to goodness and the truth in full.

Even the most evil-sanctioning of men can turn –
Yes, even after decades of throwing their support towards society’s greatest evils
They can still turn
Back to a God who welcomes them.

Yes, there’s hope for most of us –
Perhaps, even for the best of us.

ONE DAY, SITTING UNDER MY FAVORITE TREE

I understand
We need light for clarity as well as its disinfectant powers
And darkness to grow underneath consciousness.

I understand
We need sweetness to lure us to habitual goodness
And sour to teach the necessity of a few bitter lessons.

I understand
We need pets while young to teach us about love
So that when we’ve grown up, we won’t fear vulnerability.

I understand
We need strong appetites both for learning and life,
Hearts that yearn after greater emotional consciousness,
And minds unafraid of any categories of emptiness.

One day, sitting under my favorite tree,
I hear a song I’ve always yearned to hear –
Starting low and steadily becoming stronger –
One voice – swelling into many –
Suddenly, I hear myself
Singing along with the rest of the world –
Aurally blossoming in a personal/communal joy –
One soul, one world, one God –

All of it – hopefully – in harmony!

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO “SEE” GOD?

Perhaps, as a reflection of reflections?

Instead of that, though, why don’t we move directly towards God
In every aspect of the “spirit” that presents itself:

For example, Love
We pretty much know what love is and how it reflects God –
So I think we need to pay more attention to the love opportunities in our lives
And, whenever we recognize love, we need to go all in.

(Love is a decorative button attached to God’s clothes)

What about Truth – we’re quite familiar with what truth is
And how it’s close to being the essence of God –
When we state the truth – especially against our self-interest –
We’ll just need to keep going – until our spirit starts becoming lighter.

(Truth dares kiss God’s lips)

What about Justice – we know how serious God can be about this
Since one can’t hide injustice from God –
In such a case, God will wake us up, place a mirror in front of us,
And compel us look directly at ourselves.

(Justice is the worn leather in God’s shoes)

Finally, what about Beauty – the lively and joyful glints in God’s eyes –
You can “see” God in all the surprises inherent in beauty –
For example, in Nature’s infinite flutter, or a loved one’s irresistible laughter.

(Beauty is the face of God glimpsed just before God turns a corner)

God is “light” – a shimmering
God is the expectant feeling in our hearts when we know something “good” is coming –
God is the expectation that life can be good –
God is identical with that “goodness.”

God is God – and that’s certainly no joke!

EVERYONE WANTS THE SAME THING

Everyone wants the same thing –
A good community for their children to grow up in
And, if their descendants so choose, the same place for future generations.

People want a meaningful God to worship –
A God who encourages goodness, spontaneity, and creativity.

People want love between husbands and wives to be and remain real,
And freedom for their children to “be themselves,”
Along with friends who they’re happy to spend time with
As well as an openness to joy – (not just satisfaction or happiness)
But pure joy.

They want to experience the world getting better
With violence, nihilism, and hatefulness falling away.

They want their intellectuals to have common sense –
While still preferring to “think for themselves” –
And they’ll take all the time necessary to sort through
The value of what they’re presented with
So as to make intelligent-loving decisions.

Everyone wants the same thing –
Good neighbors – (next door, county, state, and country) –
And they’ll also want to know that, as they age, they’ll be on a natural arc
Of becoming more loving, more wise,
And more accepting of others.

Finally, they want God to be their best friend –
A God who’ll walk out ahead of them, pointing out what’s good,
What they should seriously treasure, and, ultimately,
What’s important to be retained for life beyond our physical life –
The one we can’t now see or experience, but hope will be there
When it finally comes time for us to go.

THERE’S NO BEAUTY WITHOUT

There’s no beauty without naturalness
And, of course, goodness.

There’s no beauty without a love that’s alive
And none, certainly, in the bleak lands of the unjust.

There’s no beauty without reciprocal respect
And none when facing violence.

There’s no beauty without generosity
And none, of course, beyond the outer limits of joy.

There’s certainly no beauty without spontaneity
And none at all when engaged in worshipping one’s own ego.

****

When natural beauty walks into a room – everyone holds their breath
Because the presence of beauty makes everyone glad
For this unexpected gift.

When God eventually sends us a follow-up to Jesus –
In female form –
Everything will have to be re-thought, re-experienced, and re-imagined
Because of the presence of such new spiritual beauty –

That’s when we’ll be able to modify all the old forms
Of capitalism, religion, laws, and customs –

And when the world will finally start becoming fresh
Once again.

GOD SAYS

God says
“Let there be capitalism –
But only within limits.”

Upper middle class above –
Lower middle class below –
While anything else will be viewed as anti-human
And “Not Permitted!”

Billionaires wear the masks of invisible monsters –
Stealing the opportunity to become fully human
From hundreds of millions of men and women across the world.

Extreme capitalism – that is, capitalism without limits –
Bends everything to its accelerating force –
Whether politics, religion, beauty, or meaning –
With a resulting loss, across the board, of proportionality.

Human capitalism with limits –
Retains a potential of human freedom
And preserves the natural goodness
Of our “home” – this blue/green earth –
Along with the purity of its water, air, and soil.

Just as an absolute Second Amendment has flooded our country with guns
Used to murder young children and, of course, numerous others –
So absolute capitalism empowers a handful of human beings to become “diamond gods” –
Humanly heartless –
With the remainder of humanity channeled into wage slavery for meeting basic human needs.

God says
“Let there be capitalism –
But only within limits.”
